First week of blogging

Whew.  A week has gone by since I started this blog. According to the web hosting company’s advertisements: quick, simple, and easy. That is a big negative Ghostrider. First four days were spent setting up the domain, policies, security features, email, etc. I called technical support at least three times a day which is ironic as I work in the IT field. Haha on me. Good thing I know how to act like a user. 

Lesson learned > You get what you pay for. I went with a basic plan which is sufficient for blogging. However, you are missing a vital configuration tool called the cpanel (or something similar). My blog didn’t exist. Ticket opened. I had no access for setting up the included SSL certificate. Ticket opened. My email will be handled by a different vendor. Ticket opened. Five tickets later I think the issues have been resolved. Except for the specific email set up nothing else should have required my intervention. I guess I didn’t qualify for a discounted rate or coupon for my troubles as I am on the basic plan. The sad part is depending on who I reached in technical support the conversation ended one of two ways: 1) You can upgrade your plan to get more access options or 2) You have 45 days with our money back guarantee. No. The whole purpose is to test ride and determine if I like the provider and see how things operate. Recommendation > If you can afford a higher tier option then go with that. This allows you better and immediate control of your blog. You will probably be placed higher in the support queue also.
